The curriculum you use in your preschool classroom helps you meet learning goals and provides guidance in developing activities and experiences. Use the checklist below adapted from the article,“Preschool Curriculum Decision-Making: Dimensions to Consider" to assess your preschool curriculum. Check all of the questions that apply to your curriculum. If there is an area (or areas) you did not check, discuss ways of how you can improve your curriculum with your trainer, coach or administrator.

Checklist for Preschool Curriculum:

• Does the curriculum clearly define the roles of the teacher and the child in the learning process?
• Are all domains of learning addressed?
• Will this curriculum meet state early learning standards?
• Does the curriculum provide ideas for differentiating instruction?
• Is there an assessment system that aligns with your program’s teaching philosophy?
• Does research support the effectiveness of the curriculum?
• Is the curriculum appropriate for all children?
• Are specific materials needed to implement the curriculum?
• Does the curriculum encourage family involvement?
• Does the curriculum provide guidance for transitioning to kindergarten?
